Thousands of Children in Somalia Threatened by Measles

NAIROBI (KON)--Recent rates of infection are four times higher than the same time last year, and a vaccination campaign must be "urgently conducted to prevent thousands of avoidable deaths", the UN children's agency UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) warned in a joint statement.

Somali PM calls for immediate ceasefire in Lower Shabelle region

MOGADISHU (KON) - Somali PM Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed today issued an urgent message to the clan militia fighting in lower Shabelle region and called on them to immediately cease hostilities. He also announced that his government will send a ministerial level delegation to the region to bring the conflict to an end.
