Somalia: A renowned tribal elder shot dead in Kismayo
KISMAYO (KON) - A tribal elder was gunned down in Somalia's southern port city of Kismayo, the latest in a string of assassinations targeting Local businessmen and well-know elders, KON reports.
Ugaas Hussein Hafow, Cowrmale clan chief was shot dead by armed Ras Kamboni militiamen as he was walking out of a mosque at Alanley neighborhood in Kismayo on Monday afternoon, according to witnesses.
It is yet unclear why the local elder was killed by Ahmed Madobe's militiamen. Kismayo, capital of Lower Jubba region, 500 Km south of Mogadishu has been the scene of such assassinations over the past two years.
Local residents said they shocked and scared the increasing killings and insecurity in Kismayo which is controlled by militiamen local to Ahmed Madobe and Kenyan defense forces (KDF) since 2012 after Al shabab's withdrawal.
On Tuesday morning, Ras Kamboni militiamen forced the businessmen to close their premises, in what they called security searches. On other hand the huge presence of the forces in the streets has suppressed the movement of people and hampered public transport.
