Somalia: Al shabaab kill MP, wound another in Mogadishu drive-by shooting
MOGADISHU, Somalia (KON) -- A member of Somalia's Federal parliament has been shot dead, another injured in a drive-by-shooting in Mogadishu on Saturday, speaker of the parliament confirmed, KON reports.
Yusuf Mohamed Dirir died while his colleague MP Aballa Boos was seriously wounded after Al shabaab gunmen sprayed a hail of bullets on their car while diving ay Mogadishu's Makka Al Mukarama street, according to witnesses.
The wounded MPs were rushed to Darul Shifa Hospital, where Mr Dirir was later pronounced dead. The murder of Yusuf Dirir becomes the 9th MP killed by Al shabaab in Mogadaishu over the past 13 months.
Somali parliament speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari said in a statement that the parliamentarians were shot by Al shabaab attackers as they were driving from their Hotel and heading to Parliament house for a meeting.
Al shabaab, the Somali-based militant group linked with Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack, and threatened to increase their attacks on MPs, accusing them for collaborating with western nations.
