MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least 20people were killed and 30 others wounded when a car bomb blast occurred in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday evening.

The vehicle laden with explosives ripped through Luul Yemeni restaurant located near Mogadishu seaport, the financial nerve center of the Somali government.

Police spokesman Col Sadik said the blast was used a TUK-TUK packed with IEDs and put the death toll at 10 conflicting with the early casualty figures provided by the Aamin Ambulance service and eyewitness.

The Al-Qaeda’s East Africa branch, Al-Shabaab has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted a security gathering in the restaurant.

Police reported that the devastating terrorist explosion destroyed a structure in the vicinity and more people under the wreckage.

The security situation in Mogadishu has significantly worsened during Farmajo's rule.

The blast comes amidst heavy army presence in the streets ahead of the planned anti-Farmajo protest by the Council of the Presidential Candidates.

The rally was postponed after talks on the election crisis collapsed with the opposition blaming the government for not willing to end the standoff through dialogue.
