12 dead as Kenyan army clash with Al-shabab rebels in Lower Jubba region

KISMAYU, Somalia (Keydmedia) - Al-shabab insurgents and pro –Warlord Gandi militias alongside Kenyan military have on Tuesday clashed in Hayo area Beled of the Lower Jubba state, killing 12 people, injuring 7 others, Keydmedia reports.

Reports said Al-shabab militias have attacked with mortars on several Kenyan armed forces bases located at Hayo area. The fighting has intensified at mid morning and spread towards many towns in the province.

Officials of Gandi militias and locals confirmed to Keydmedia Somali by telephone from the area that most of the casualties were on Kenyan soldiers who have been killed in the ambush attack by Al-shabab rebel insurgents. The situation is just calm and things returned to normal after the fighting and shells subsided and the militants left from the vicinity.

Both Al-shabab and Kenyan officials didn’t comment on the combat so far.

Al-shabab insurgents have recently have been attacked by both Gandi militias and their allied Transitional Federal Government and Kenyan forces in different southwestern regions of Somalia.
