9 wounded in grenade attacks at busy market in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia) – At least 9 people, including police and civilians have been injured on Saturday in grenade attacks at Bakaro market, a busy market in the heart of Mogadishu, Somali capital, Keydmedia reports.

The first blast was reportedly thrown at café in Suuqa Dahablaha (Golden market) frequented by police and civilians from a nearby building roof by unidentified attackers, injuring 7 people according to eyewitnesses.

The second explosion took place at Abdalla Shideeye area in Bakaro market, two people were also injured. The victimized were rushed to the medical centers in Mogadishu to receive proper treatment.

Troops and officials from Somali government have reached inside the market and launched an investigation to find out the assailants.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the double attacks, but suspicion may fall on the country’s top militant group, Al Shabab, which claimed responsibility of several deadly blasts hit in Somalia..

Earlier last month a bomb blast in a flask placed along the street where market traders sell vegetables in Baidoa’s market, Somalia’s third-largest city killed at least 11 people and wounded several, an attack claimed by the Shebab.
