BAYDHABO, Somalia - A heavy explosion took place today in the city of Baidoa, the capital of the Bay region, which is serving as the seat of the Southwest regional state led by Lafta Garen, a key Farmajo crony.

An eyewitness said that the blast targeted the state's Minister of Justice, Hassan Ibrahim Lugbur as he left the mosque after the Friday prayer, and there are various casualties.

The minister was confirmed to have died in the explosion by a bomber. The number of casualties still remained sketchy.

The sound of the explosion was heard across the city and the blast site was cordoned off by the Southwest and Ethiopian forces, who have started an investigation into the attack.

Yesterday, a suicide bombing killed the mayor of Marka, the capital of the Lower Shabelle region, who was targeted while he was leaving a meeting at the administrative headquarters.

The governor named Abdullahi Waafow and 11 others died in the explosion, and the responsibility was claimed by the Al-Shabaab group, which is fighting the government and the ATMIS forces.
