According to witnesses in Wajid who spoke with Keydmedia English News by phone on condition of anonymity said that Al shabab agents have taken Captain Mohammed Kamal, the late officer from his home in the town and he was on Friday morning found dead on the outskirts of Wajid, 302 kilometres (188 mi) North West of Mogadishu.

No Al Shabab official was immediately available for comment on the murder.

The motive behind the murdering of this Somali police chief is uncertain, but Al shabab has killed several senior government officials after taking over briefly the control of Wajid early on this month.

Certain Somali Analysts warn that the rebels, Somalia’s most brutal group, still remain a serious threat to international efforts to stabilise the war-torn country.
