DIINSOOR, Somalia - Fighting between Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab militants broke out in Dinsor district in the Bay region on Monday morning.
The skirmish erupted after members of Al-Shabaab attacked a military base in Dinsor district from several directions, leading to a deadly gun battle, reports said.
Some residents have confirmed the attack to Keydmedia Online by phone, saying they heard sustained gunfire exchanged by both sides during the armed clash.
The combat caused casualties but there no immediate confirmation of the number. The terror group stepped up attacks on the town in recent weeks.
Despite losing ground and facing military pressure on some fronts, the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group still holds large swathes of territory in the south and central Somalia.
The terrorists have been besieging districts in the Bay, Bakool, and Hiran regions since SNA forces took over seven years ago, resulting in a severe humanitarian crisis and hyperinflation.
