Al-shabab attacks TFG, AU bases in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Keydmedia) – Heavy battle between Somali government soldiers and African union peacekeeping troops known as AMISOM and the Al-Qaeda linked rebels of Al-shabab occurred overnight in southern parts of Mogadishu, witnesses and officials say.

The fighting erupted late last night around 11:30 p.m. local time after rebels loyal to Al-shabab have attacked on TFG and AMISOM bases at Ex-control Afgoye, Maslaha building and Asluubta area on the outskirts of the capital, causing an unconfirmed casualties on both sides and nearby civilians.

“The fighting broke out as we were preparing to sleep and no one in Elasha Biyaha could walk in the streets. It was a dangerous conflict. I saw several artilleries landed in many parts of my neighborhoods, wounding civilians, a local resident told Keydmedia English News.

Ahmed Yare, a TFG commander at the Ex-control Afgoye checkpoint told reporters in Mogadishu that Al-shabab fighters have tried to bring back  Maslaha building, Sarkuusta, checkpoint and Shabelle University, but they were pushed back and suffered heavy casualties.

Al-shabab has said any word about the combat yet however none of the claims by the Somali government official can be independently verified.
