Al-shabab rebels claim responsibility for the attempted assassination of Gen. Qeybdid

Mogadishu (Keydmedia.net) - The Al-Qaeda affiliated group of Al-shabab has Wednesday claimed the responsibility for an attempted assassination of a former Somali warlord and police chief at his home town of Galka’yo in central the conflict-torn horn of Africa country.

Sheik Abdiaziz Abu Mus’ab, the spokesman for Al-shabab group for the military operations told a militant-controlled radio that they have carried out the suicide blast targeted on Tuesday General Abdi Hassan Awale Qeybdid at his house in southern part of Galka’yo town.

Reports indicated that the bomber has exploded his explosives at the main entrance of Mr. Qeybdid’s house, killing a bodyguard and four civilians who were nearby the scene at the time of the suicide explosion.

The Gen. was unhurt and survived from the blast.

Al-shabab group, which controls much of south-central the country, is struggling to remove from power the UN-backed Somali government based in the capital, Mogadishu.
