Al shabab retakes over a town in central Somalia

MAXAAS, Somalia (Keydmedia) - Heavily armed fighters belonging to the Al Qaeda-linked Al shabab have recaptured on Monday the town of Mahas located in Hiiran region central Somalia, shortly after ASWJ forces retreated from the city, Keydmedia reports.

Reports indicated that the town which lies in south central Somalia was captured by Al Shabaab insurgents after allied forces retreated Monday morning. It is unclear why Ahlu Sunnah forces vacated the town, but sources say that there was a delay in reinforcements.

Saney Mohammed Farah, ASWJ official told Media that their retreat from the town was “a military tactics.” And will launch a counter attack against Al shabab militants.

Residents of Mahasa said that the situation is now calm but residents are gripped with fear of possible fighting between Ahlu Sunna and Al shabab fighters over the control of the town.

Al-Shabaab officials did not officially comment their recapture of Mahas town,but they reportedly told locals that they will revive their former administrations.
