Badiyow: Farmajo must look back on the lessons learned from the past

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Dr. Abdirahman Badiyow, a Somali scholar and author who rose to the public spotlight during his campaign as a presidential candidate during the 2017 election said that any leader who fails to reconcile with his people seeking peace somewhere overseas will always remain inviable.

Badiyow reminded the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to look back on the lessons learned in the past in order to virtualize how the future could look like.

He recently described the extension term that gives the executive and the legislative as well as the outgoing President a two-year mandate to stay in office as invalid and unconstitutional arguing that it breaches and fails to observe the rule of law that every leader must abide by it.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Forum Party pointed out that making extension and holding election fraud could lead this country to an unwanted heinous future that will cause insecurity, chaos, and fall the nation apart.

“It tears the very fabric of this country if this so-called extension is persisted in, leading us to disaster, disgust, and distrust among the citizens,” he said.

He called on those behind the controversial law to open their eyes to reality and foresee the consequences that will arise, taking Siad Barre and Mengistu Haile as and examples.

“The two regimes underestimated the power of their people, and they were eventually forced to flee and escape abroad by their own people – and that, the bad reputations the dictators leave,” he said.

The outgoing President is determined to seek support for his extension term overseas to persuade the world to recognize his move to stay in power.
