MOGADISHU, Somalia - Heavy fighting was reported in the Lower Jubba region between Kenyan troops who are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Al-Shabaab fighters. 

According to the residents, the battle erupted after Al-Shabaab attacked a Kenyan military base in Hosingow area near ​​Badhadhe district, sparking a gunfight that inflicted casualties on both sides.

We heard gunfire from the attacked base belonging to the Kenyan military, and there were casualties on both sides as well as civilians,' said a villager, who asked to remain anonymous. 

Residents also said they were terrified during the fighting, as they feared harm from the fighting that comes a day after the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan in Somalia on Saturday.

Kenyan troops were reported to have fought off the attack and pushed back the attackers during the ambush on their base. They conducted a clearance operation in the area following the attack.
