BREAKING NEWS: Fresh fighting flares up in Las’anod town, north Somalia

LAS’ANOD, Somalia (Keydmedia) Fresh fighting between the self declared state of Somaliland military and soldiers loyal to the the newly established Khatumo state has on Sunday morning flared up in the neighborhood of Las’anod town in northern Somalia region of Sool, reports said.

Local residents told Keydmedia English News by phone that the fighting started around 6:30am (local time) at Gambare village,a frontline area, 30 Km away from the provincial capital of Sool region, Las’anod town. Heavy bombardment could sometimes be heard across the town.

The exact casualties of the fighting is yet unclear since the battle is still going on in the town of  Las’anod which has been restive town since 2007 after Somaliland military seized it from the semi-autonomous state Puntland forces.

On the other hand, the Local residents in Buhodle town of Togdher region said that there is on Sunday morning fear for possible fighting in the town as Khatumo state and Somaliland military both are making drills to intensify their defensive positions near the town.

There are no immediate comments from both warring sides.

Las’anod has been restive town since 2007 after Somaliland seized from Puntland forces.
