Children hurt in Al-Shabaab attack on Somali police station

BAIDOA, Somalia - Heavy fighting between Southwest state soldiers and Al-Shabaab militants took place last night in Baidoa, the capital of the Bay region which led to multiple casualties. 

The skirmish erupted after Al-Shabaab attacked a police station in Baidoa's Suuqa Xoolaha neighborhood, and lasted for more than 30 minutes, according to the local residents.

Witnesses told Keydmedia English that two children were wounded in the fighting which also inflicted losses upon the warring two sides. But the number still remains unclear. 

Southwest police officials said they had repulsed the Al-Shabaab attack and suffered minor casualties. The militants were pushed back during the clashes after the police station attack.
