Clashes in southern town

Reports from the southern town of luq indicate that six people were killed and thirteen others were wounded after fierce clashes between somali government troops and al-shabab.

The fighting started Al-Shabab forces attacked Luq and villages in the area controlled by forces loyal Somalia’s weak government.

Al-Shabab reportedly bombarded the city with mortar shells before face to face clashes erupted.

Reports also say that government forces made number of arrests after conducting security operations in the area.

Siyad Abdi Kalil, a Somali government commander in the area told local media that the clashes were minor adding that Shabab intended to create chaos in the area.

There is no word from the Al-Shabab regarding the latest clashes.
