It is still unclear the whereabouts of the trader and his continued absence sent a shockwave among the Somali community in South Africa who long-faced mounting xenophobic attacks.
South Africa's government has been accused of falling short and ignoring the calls to end deadly xenophobic violence against foreigners, including Somalis by local violent mobs and gangs.
For the past years, dozens of Somalis were killed in the wave of the attacks on migrants which became common in the country where locals accuse the foreigners of stealing their jobs.
In May 2021, a young Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed Mahmoud who has been missing for over a week has been found dead in Kenya and his killing sparked suspicion that it was pre-mediated murder.
