Deadly blast rocks Ethiopian troops in central Somalia town

BALADWEYNE, Somalia (Keydmedia) – Huge landmine blast hit on Ethiopian military in Beledweyne town of Hiran region, which is just 350 Km away north of Mogadishu, causing irretrievable loss to the army, witnesses say on Tuesday.

Residents in the town told Keydmedia English News that the blast was targeted on a personnel carrier with many Ethiopian forces as they were patrolling at Ajabka and bridge villages in Beledweyne, but it could not independently verify the exact number of casualties to the Ethiopian military.

Reports suggest that the explosion momentarily halted business and public transportation of the locals as Investigations are underway concerning the incident. Ethiopian forces opened fire at crowds that subsequently dispersed.

No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far, but Al-shabab rebels vowed before to step up their attacks, including landmine blasts and car bombs in Beledweyne town, the capital of Hiran region in central Somalia.

Beledweyne town which has previously been changed hands between Somali power struggling factions in the past three years witnessed land mine attack incidents on TFG soldiers, local clan militias backed by Ethiopian military and locals are concerned about the rising insecurity situation in the area.
