District official escapes bomb attack in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Mogadishu has been hit by two explosions on Wednesday targeting local a government official and Covid-19 awareness complainers, killing two people.

The first attack took place in Karan district when a remote-controlled landmine ripped through a vehicle-mounted with loudspeakers used to raise awareness about the risks of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IED left the driver dead and two security guards wounded, according to the police.

Hours later, a second similar blast occurred near Hotel Guled in Yaqshid located north of the capital aimed that was targeted a vehicle carrying the deputy district commissioner of the district.

The official has escaped unhurt from the bombing but one of the security team members was reported to have lost his life in the terrorist action.

The DC of Yaqshid previously survived a futile attempt to take his life two times.
