MOGADISHU, Somalia - The outgoing president of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo whose termed expired February 8 has called for another conference in Mogadishu on the 18th and 19th of this month.
Villa Somalia last night issued a statement to confirm that Farmajo has invited the heads of regional states in Somalia, and the Mogadishu mayor to bring an end to the deepening election dispute.
It is the second time this month that Farmajo has announced such a meeting, with the latest talks failed to happen after controversy over the venue.
The presidential statement came hours after the technical committees of the two sides met in Baidoa this week and issued recommendations on the contentious issues of the election, paving the way for national dialogue.
The opposition candidates who are planning to stage a rally on Friday want to attend the upcoming talks on the election process to reach a consensus on the disputed issues that delayed the voting schedule.
