Farmajo fails for the 3rd time to convene poll meeting

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Farmajo failed to convene a meeting he called a few days ago in Mogadishu to end the dispute over the implementation of the Sept. 19 election agreement.

The meeting between Farmajo and the heads of the regional states was expected to open today, March 4 at Villa Somalia but failed to take place after the leaders of Jubaland and Puntland boycotted it.

The reason for the failure was attributed to the dispute at the conference venue, with Deni and Ahmed Madobe requesting the Halane base.

This is the third time Farmajo has called for a conference since last month, and the controversy has delayed the election schedule.

Farmajo has been blamed for the current stalemate in Somalia after failing to hold elections on time, ending his term in office.

Opposition candidates plan to hold demonstrations in Mogadishu next Saturday against the postponed elections and Farmajo’s bid to stay in power without a mandate.
