Fierce fighting in El Bur town kills 8 people

EL BUR, Somalia (Keydmedia) – At least eight people have been killed and several others injured in a fierce fighting between the clan based pro-government Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a fighters alongside Ethiopians forces in El Bur town, Keydmedia reports.

Some locals who spoke with Keydmedia English News on the phone from El Bur confirmed that the combat sparked late overnight when Al shabab agents launched a surprise attack with mortar bombs on main bases belonging to Ahlu Sunna and Ethiopian forces in El Bur town, Galgadud region.

At least 8 combatants on both warring sides were said to have been killed during the attack and counter-attack in the central town of El Bur, a district in Galgadud region that Al-Shabab rebels had withdrawn last month before the pro-government forces arrived.

Despite pressure on the militants, Al-Shabab continues to carry out deadly attacks against Somali government and its allied regional forces who are serving under the umbrella AMISOM.

No comments on the fighting were immediately available from both rival sides.
