Foreigners are jailed in Mogadishu for bringing in $3.6m

Mogadishu (Keydmedia) - Banadir region court on Saturday sentenced six foreigners 10-15 years in prison each for bringing millions of dollars intended for pirate ransom into the country, persecutor confirmed.

The nationalities of the sentenced foreigners are said to be three Britons, two Kenyans and one American, all of them are white.

The American man and one Britain who are said were responsible the bringing of the money have been  sentenced to 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine, but the rest were sentenced to 10 years and a $10,000 fine, the court officials told to media.

Banadir region court also sentenced that the planes and the money can be confiscated by Somali transitional federal government


The foreigners have been seized in Mogadishu airport May 14, 2011; after Somali intelligence service obtained that their planes have been carrying millions of dollars in cash to Somali piracy as ransom.
