Galmudug submits names for Elections Committees

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Galmudug has submitted the names of its representatives to Somalia's Election implementation team [SEIT] which is a major breakthrough to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the election.

The list sent to PM’s office consists of four members, including two women, three of them will be joining the SEIT while the fourth one appointed to the electoral dispute resolution body.

This appointment is part of PM-led efforts to facilitate the electoral process and bring together the political stakeholders in Somalia before the election date slated for next month.

For the past months, there have been political disagreements between the federal government and its member states on issues concerning the electoral members, the Gedo region, and the election process.

The Federal States of Somalia and the national government agreed on an election pact on May 27 following talks in Mogadishu that was brokered by the international community.

The agreement was widely welcomed as a positive step that can help to create conditions for the rapid implementation of the process in an inclusive and consensual manner.

Somalia missed its election deadline twice due to standoff resulted from Farmajo's bad politics and attempt to extend his term by two years illegally that led to an escalation of violence in Mogadishu last April.
