Gunmen kill an official with Somalia’s justice ministry

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Suspected Al-Shabaab militants armed with pistols have shot dead a top lawyer working with the justice ministry of the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu on Saturday night.

The slain lawyer was identified as Abdullahi Abdi Mohamed, and he was shot several times in the upper parts of the body while heading to his house in the Taleh area that led to his sudden death on the spot.

The perpetrators, who killed the civil servant fled the scene before the arrival of the security forces, according to eyewitnesses and police officials.

A brief statement from the Ministry of Justice conveyed its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late government employee, who was killed in Mogadishu.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination, which comes amid growing insecurity incidents in the capital due to the lax security and ongoing political crisis over the delayed elections.

Since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, there have been several assassinations in Mogadishu, most of them carried out by Al-Shabaab, a terror group fighting to topple the UN-backed government.
