Al-shabab militant and Somali transitional federal government military forces fought many times in the region this year. The government advanced more residents where the militants used to control before this year’s struggle.

The fighting caused huge displacements which affected the people in the region who faced also the worst drought in the country recently. At least fifty thousands of drought victims fled to Somali capital Mogadishu after the drought has left their animals completely.  Many others crossed the borders of neighboring countries so as to survive from the tragedy.
