IGAD slams Mogadishu Terror Attack

DJIBOUTI - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development IGAD has strongly condemned Wednesday’s Al-Shabaab car bomb attack in the Somali capital, Mogadishu that left at least eight people.

IGAD’s Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu termed the attack as “barbaric” and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishes a quick recovery to the injured.

The bombing outside Aden Abdulle International Airport also wounded scores of people, most civilians who are currently being treated at various hospitals in the city, according to the medical sources.

The Executive Secretary has reaffirmed IGAD’s firm commitment to continue support for Somalia.

The attack has targeted a convoy carrying officials while traveling on 21st October road which leads to the heavily fortified airport. It becomes the first terrorist attack since the start of this new year, 2022.

Under Farmajo's leadership, Mogadishu sees the worst attacks in history, including the 14 October 2017 truck blast at Km5 junction which claimed the lives of nearly 1,000 Somali people and injured hundreds.
