KDF airstrike hits Al-Shabaab convoy, killing 11 terrorists

KISMAYO, Somalia - The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), said they have killed 11 Al-Shabaab terrorists and wounded several others in Kudha Island located in the Lower Jubba region.

David Goldman, the Director of Counter-Terrorism, National Security, and Intelligence Analysis at Strategic Intelligence confirmed that the militants died in a KDF air raid that targeted a convoy carrying dozens of militants traveling in a semi-forest road outside Kudha town, Two vehicles have been destroyed in the attack.

He said the shelling followed a ground operation by Kenyan forces after Al-Shabaab attacked Jubaland forces traveling near Kudhaa in the Lower Jubba region early on Wednesday morning, which the militant group said killed 8 soldiers. 

Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on reports from the Kenyan military that 11 fighters have been killed in aerial bombardment, which comes amid reports of deadly clashes between Kenyan forces and the Al-Qaeda-linked group in the region which lies near Kenya's border.

Kenyan troops invaded Somalia in 2011 to fight Al-Shabaab following a series of kidnappings against aid workers in the northeastern region and joined AMISOM, an AU mission in 2012.
