Militants, Army Clashes in Southwest Somalia Leave 10 Dead

HOSINGO,Somalia (Keydmedia)- — At least 10 people have been killed and more others were wounded in a fierce clashes between Gandi Militia allied with the invading Kenyan army and Al-shabab rebels in southwestern Somalia, reports say on Wednesday.

The fighting which lasted for several hours took place overnight at Hosingo area, small village just few miles from the border between Somalia and Kenya after a number of of Al-shabab fighters launched a surprise attack on bases managing by the allied forces.

According to the sources at least 7 rebels from Al-shabab and 3 Gandi milita fighters have been killed during the battle. The fighting intensified and spread too many remote villages beyond the battlefields nearby villages adjacent to Kenyan border town of Dhoblay in Lower Jubba region of southwestern Somalia.

Neither Al-shabab militants nor Gandi-Kenyan officials in the region has made any comments about the combat, but the residents say the fighting was the fiercest one for months in the town for months.

Kenyan military with heavy artilleries and tanks have illegally invaded into Somalia in mid-October last year under pretext of fighting against Al-shabab rebel insurgent group linked with Al-Qaeda which Nairobi blames for the increasing insecurity in its soil.
