NISA foils bomb attack near the capital by Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia - NISA says it foiled an attempt to explode bombs in the main Mogadishu-Afgoye corridor, which was allegedly planned and organized by Al-Shabaab militants.

The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) seized a landmine and a suicide vest in Elasha Biyaha on the outskirts of Mogadishu that were intended to carry out a terror attack.

NISA officials who led the operation told local media in Mogadishu that the seizure of the explosives was assisted by civilians, who informed the Somali security agencies.

They accused Al-Shabaab of intending to harm civilians with the roadside bombs captured before they reached their target. Elasha Biyaha lies some 18Kms southwest of Mogadishu.

Al-Shabaab members carry out bombings and assassinations in the capital and nearby villages under the government control amid the presence of NISA's plain-clothed officers.
