One dead, 5 among them MPs hurt in Somalia blast

JOWHAR, Somalia – At least one person was confirmed dead and five others, including two HirShabelle regional MPs, wounded in a bomb attack in Somalia.

Witness said Saturday’s landmine explosion occurred at a busy restaurant in Jowhar city which is frequented by local politicians, lawmakers, and soldiers.

Omar Gabow and Yusuf Abdulkadir who are members of the HirShabelle state parliament sustained injuries from the attack claimed by the Al-Shabaab group.

The regional assembly speaker Abdulhakim Luqman has condemned the terrorist attack, and termed it “cowardly and heinous”. It's the second such blast in the city within two months.

Luqman called on local security agencies to bring those behind the bombing to the book and beef up the security in the town where the Lower House election is taking place.
