Qatar invites Farmajo to Doha amid election crisis in Somalia

DOHA, Qatar - The term-ended President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo will arrive on Saturday in Doha on a working visit to the country, Qatar News Agency [QNA] has announced.

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will meet HE the Somali President on Sunday at the Amiri Diwan, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them, in addition to a number of issues of common interest,' QNA reported.

Somalia's state media didn't report on Farmaajo's travel to Doha amid division and fallout with the prime minister of the country Mohamed Hussein Roble whose office is controlling the broadcast.

Qatar has been maintaining close ties with Farmaajo for the past five years, as the Gulf nation pumped millions of US dollars in the country to back his re-election this year, a source told Keydmedia.

Doha is battling against the UAE over the infelucence in Somalia and this has put the country's sovereignty at risk due to the massive foreign interference which is cripling the state-building efforts.

Farmaajo's trip comes amid an election crisis in Somalia after the country failed to pick new parliament since last year prompted the U.S. to impose visa restrictions last month for the political leaders.
