Jubaland President is sick and in UAE hospital - sources

KISMAYO, Somalia – The president of Jubaland state Ahmed Madobe is said to be sick as he has not made a public appearance for weeks, according to information received by Keydmedia Online.

Madobe was last seen in public on July 21 after the appointment of Hamza Abdi Barre, the former Jubaland electoral commission chairmen as the prime minister of Somalia by president Hassan Sheikh.

The regional state leader slipped in the bathroom last July and suffered an injury to his back, and some reports say he got a broken bone in his back.

The sources confirmed to Keydmedia Online that Madobe was initially admitted to Nairobi hospital but when his condition worsened, he has been flown to UAE for proper medical treatment.

There is no statement from Jubaland's presidency regarding the health situation of Ahmed Madobe, a former Al-Shabaab commander and Rasmanboni militia leader who turned president in  2013.

Madobe conquered the port city of Kismayo in late 2012 from Al-Shabaab, thanks to Kenyan defense forces [KDF] who helped him succeed in his goal.

Under his leadership, Kismayo witnessed rape against women and targeted assassinations against traditional elders, businessmen, and activists deemed critical to Madobe's rule.
