MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least two regional coastal guards have been wounded following a shootout between naval forces and gunmen on a boat illegally fishing in Somalia’s waters.
The internal security ministry of Galmudug state of Somalia has confirmed the incident, saying it took place April 11 after the maritime forces came under fire while chasing the foreign boat off the Hobyo coast.
The shooting left an officer and a Marine who was part of the operation wounded, according to the statement obtained by KON. It is unclear whether the boat has been captured or escaped at the time.
