MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali National Army [SNA] carried out an operation in Kili-Jiido area under the Janale town of the Lower Shabelle region, 100Km west of Mogadishu.

The Chief of SNA, General Odowa Yusuf Rage, said that during the operation in the remote village, the Army killed around 10 members of Al-Shabaab and wounded 13 others.

Rage added that the armed forces destroyed customs offices and training camps belonging to Al-Shabaab. There was no independent source that confirms the SNA boss's claims.

The commander noted that the operations underway across the country to fight against Al-Shabaab will continue until the militants are removed from their final pockets.

Despite facing military pressure, Al-Shabaab controls large swathes of territory in the south and central Somalia with the group staging car bombs and assassinations in the capital.

Al-Shabaab, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, has been waging war in Somalia for more than 10 years, posing a major threat to the security of the country and the Horn of Africa region.

The US military recently resumed airstrikes on Al-Shabaab, as Washington seeks to counter the group's threat in Somalia. Biden administration keeps an eye on terror groups in Africa.
