Somali army start operation against Al-Shabaab near Kenya’s border

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali army launched an operation against Al-Shabaab in the Dollow and Luuq districts of the Gedo region as part of an ongoing military plan to liberate the whole country.

The troops carried out the offensive between Gedweyne and Luuq districts, especially in the Shatalow area, where Al-Shabaab has several bases it used to orchestrate the terror attacks.

The operation was led by senior officers including Gedo Regional Security and Intelligence Commander Colonel Abdirahman Abdullahi Aden, Commander of the 10th Battalion of the 43rd Division of the Armed Forces. Colonel Osman Abdi Qorax and Gedo Regional Police Commander Colonel Abdulkadir Omar Bihi.

The officers said that they will continue operations against Al-Shabaab until they ensure the security of the road between Luuq and Dollow districts near Somalia's porous border with Kenya.
