Since the removal of the moderate Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a from power by the Somali government, Al-Shabaab has gained a space to launch attacks against key towns in Galmudug regional state.
GURI’EL, Somalia – A fierce combat between Al-Shabaab militants and Somali government forces broke out on the outskirts of Galmudug state capital, Dhusamareb on Sunday morning.
Reports from Galgadud province in central Somalia indicate that the fighting after heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters entered small villages located between Guri’el and Dhusamareb.
Somali troops from the central command under the 21st division pushed back the militants advancing on the regional capital following a deadly battle that left at least 15 terrorists dead.
“The troops repulsed an attack by Al-Shabaab on Tula-Yahow and El-Dhere locations on Sunday morning, where the terrorist group lost at least 15 members,” said a villager.
The dead bodies of the militants have been put on display in the area shortly after the gunfight subsided in the noon. There was no immediate confirmation of the army casualties.

The group seized control of Af-Agag and the militants were spotted in Dabarre 30Km away from Guri’el, the second-largest city in the central region, which now faces terrorist threats.
