Somali, Kenyan foreign ministers hold warm phone talks

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Kenya, and Somalia are currently working on resolving the diplomatic spat between the two neighboring countries that have been at the lowest point since Farmajo elected as the country's president in 2017.

The ministry of foreign affairs announced that Kenya's foreign minister Raychelle Omamo has held warm and cordial phone talks with her Somali counterpart Mohamed Abdirizak and reconfirmed the need to expeditiously reopen their two respective Missions of Kenya and Somalia in Nairobi and Mogadishu.

The two foreign ministers have emphasized the importance of normalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries and resolve the diplomatic dispute through amicable dialogue to improve trade, security, and cultural relations between Somalia and Kenya.

Kenya and Somalia are in deadlock over the ownership of an Indian Ocean maritime boundary rich in oil and gas with Nairobi pushing for outside ICJ resolution, a move that Mogadishu already rejected and insisted it awaits a final decision from the UN judical body.
