Somali PM meets with UAE diplomat amid strained ties

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Prime Minister of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble has today received Mohamed Ahmed Al Othman, the Ambassador of the UAE in Mogadishu.

The PM and the UAE diplomat discussed strengthening and developing the ties between the two countries that had been at a low point during Farmajo's presidency 2017-2021.

The ambassador assured Roble that the UAE government is ready to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts for the Somali people affected by the drought in most parts of the country.

The UAE Ambassador thanked the PM for his hospitality and reaffirmed his commitment to work for a lasting solution to the political and security crisis in Somalia.

Farmajo and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been at loggerheads for the past four years, prompting the UAE to suspend its projects in Somalia and military training missions.
