Somali, AU troops seize key town from Al Shabaab militants

JALALAQSI, Somalia (KON) — The Africa Union peacekeeping forces in Somalia (AMISOM) and government troops on Wednesday captured another key town in the Country's central region of Hiiraan from the rebel group Al-Shabaab, KON reports.

Local residents in  Jalalaqsi which lies 200Km North of Mogadishu said that Somali and AMISOM troops drove into the city and met no military resistance from the Al Qaeda-linked Al shabab group.  During the takeover, Residents remained indoors and businesses were closed.

"We pray their arrival of Somali and AMISOM troops will not bring chaos and robbery as happened in other towns. We have actually suffered a lot," said  Mohamed Hashi, a resident in the town told KON by phone.
