Somali judge assassinated in Las’anod town, Sool province

LAS’ANOD, Somalia (Keydmedia) - Unidentified Armed groups in northern Somalia have carried out on Saturday evening an assassination against a judge in Las’anod town, the capital of Sool region, Keydmedia reports.

Ahmed Mohamud Hajji Ali, the deceased judge was gunned down overnight at about 9:30 pm local time in Las’anod town by masked assailants armed with pistols. The attackers managed to escape from the crime scene after the shooting, according to witnesses.

The reason of the assassination is yet uncertain, but Sool governor for Somaliland Mohammud Ali Gelle, told Keydmedia English News service that the police handled to arrest a suspected person who is currently being questioned at a local jail.

The murder of Mr Ali marks the ninth judge to be assassinated inside Las’anod town over the last few years. Locals have expressed alarming concern over the targeted assignations against scholars and civilians and called for urgent investigation on the case of killings.

Las’anod, the regional capital the north Somalia region of Sool is largely disputed by Somaliland, Puntland and the newly established state of Khaatumo.
