MOGADISHU (KON) - As security of Mogadishu is deteriorating and getting out of hand from day to day, Somali security forces began carrying out day and night operations in Mogadishu, to curb the rising assassinations in the city, KON reports.

There are heavy presence of security personnel at every corner and street junction in the capital on Tuesday searching cars and walking people following rampant of attacks and targeted killings against Somali Federal government officials and army officers by Al shabab militants.

A number of people, mostly teenage boys were arrested Tuesday and taken to the police stations in connection with the insecurity incidents in Mogadishu and they are being under interrogations, according to police spokesman who briefed to the media about the fresh crackdown.

Parts of Mogadishu, including Hamarweyne and Weberi districts were the most affected areas of the operation as well as Maka Al-Mukarama highway in the heart of the capital has been cordoned off by security forces for security reasons.

Authorities say their intention is to pacify the city and stop the ongoing killings, bombings targeting government service members and as well as key buildings. Al shabab has threatened to stage more attacks in the capital during the holy month of Ramadan.
