Somalia confirms 209 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths in 24 hours

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The health ministry of Somalia on Tuesday confirmed 209 new cases of COVID-19 as the country continues to try containing the highly contagious disease.

The latest infections bring the total tally of cases to 7,727 with a total of 260 fatalities after Somalia was hit by the second wave of coronavirus last month, blaming travels abroad and the public gatherings.

The total COVID-19 recoveries are now 3,867 since last year with the main hospital in Mogadishu treating COVID-19 patients De Martini faces a shortage of oxygen to save lives.

The spike in the COVID-19 cases comes at a time Somalia in the middle of an electoral crisis after leaders of the Government and some Federal States as well as opposition candidates disputed over the process.
