Somalia to fine people not wearing mask in public places

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Mogadishu municipality has announced in advance the penalty that anyone in the capital who fails to abide by the order to wearing face masks in public will be fined 5$.

The imposed order which is part of the measures to contain Covid-19 will come into effect from March 15, according to the office of the mayor.

In Mogadishu, each face mask costs $0.5, a price that everyone can't afford to pay since the low-income population at large live less than a dollar per day.

The country's Ministry of Health confirmed that 338 people died from Covid-19 since last year and nearly 8,820 contracted the deadly virus. 

The country's health system collapsed totally with no functioning public hospitals to provide medical support to those in need.
