Somalia: Scores of people Die of Hunger and malnutrition in central towns

Abdikadir Muse, a Somalia army officer in Bulo Burde confirmed to KON that at least four children died of hunger and malnutrition on Thursday in the city and he called upon the federal government and aid agencies to help the IDPs living there. Mr. Muse stated that 40 other people have in the past lost their lives for hunger.

He said widespread Hunger and malnutrition pose serious challenges on people who have fled from their houses, because of the fighting and Al shabab blockades and restrictions on food aid from entering into the towns controlled by Somali and AMISOM troops.

“People are in desperate situation and need of help. A cup of tea costs $1 which is equivalent to 20,000 Somali Shillings here in Bulo Bude town. We urge the government and AU troops to fully liberate Al shabab from all roads leading to the city, to get people access to food,” he added.

Somali government said that it will deliver food assistance to the people in the recently liberated towns in south and central of the country amid Al shabab imposes blockades on towns.
