Somalia: Two Army commanders killed in Al Shabaab ambush attacks

MOGADISHU (KON)--The Qaeda-affiliated militants in Somalia have killed on Monday two army commanders in separate ambush attacks in the capital and in Lower Shabelle region, KON reports.

In Lower Shabelle region, heavily armed militants ambushed a military-escorted convoy carrying Omar Sheikh Elmi, the commanding officer of 6th Somali National Army(SNA) unit operating in the region, according to eyewitness account.

"The commander was killed in a coordinated gun attack on his convoy while travelling on a semi-forested road between Leego and Yaaqbari weyne villages. He was enroute to Buur Hakaba district of Bay region at the time of the attack," the witness said on condition of anonymity.

Separately, Al shabab fighters have assassinated Ibrahim Ahmed Farah, the deputy Chief of Somali counter-terrorism squad (NISA ) in drive-by shooting in Mogadishu
