Somalia’s security minister rules out attack on ex-police boss

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The security minister of Somalia’s outgoing government Hassan Hundubey has refuted claims that they are planning to attack sacked Mogadishu police chief Brigadier General Sadak John amid rising tension.

The minister’s statement came after the former Banadir Police Commissioner retreated to Shirkole Village in Hodon district after managing to escape from a government raid aimed to arrest him.

Speaking at a press conference late Friday night accused some of the opposition lawmakers of inciting the public after calling on them not to politicalize the ongoing antagonism.

The MPs including Mahad Salad and Abdirahman Odowa have last night went to Shirkole following the defection of Sadaq John who was reportedly surrounded to forcefully surrender.

The normal life of the city resumed with certainty but many fears that these hostilities may soon boil over into direct fighting but this is at least reassuring to the people of Mogadishu.
