Somaliland arrests journalists in Las’anod town

HARGEISA, Somalia (Keydmedia) – Authorities in the self-declared Somaliland have arrested a group of Somali journalists over illegal travel accusations in the breakaway territories, the latest violations against the independent broadcasting companies in Somaliland, Keydmedia reports.

The journalists were detained by the security forces of Somaliland in Las’anod town, the capital of the disputed Sool region as they were trying to travel to Hargeisa city for seminars.

Ali Ismail better known as (Ali Qase), the governor of Sool region, told the Media that the journalists will be freed if they make a decision to go back to their home towns of Bosaso, Galka’yo and Beledweyne, which locate in south and northeast Somalia. 

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has enjoyed relative stability compared to the rest of Somalia. But it has not been formally recognised internationally.
