Suicide bomb kills 38, injures 60 at Iran mosque

Tehran (keydmedia) - A relatively strong bomb rocked an area near Imam Hossein Mosque in the Southeastern city of Chabahar, in Sistan and Balouchestan province on Wednesday, killing dozens of people mourning the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (PBUH), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

There are yet no reports on the exact number of the victims but authorities have said that about 50 to 60 people have so far been rushed to medical centers for treatment.

They said it is not clear how many of the said people have been killed or injured.

According to medics, at least 38 people have been killed and many more wounded in the attack which occurred at the Imam Hussein mosque in Chabahar on Wednesday when Iranians were attending the Ashura ceremony, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

"The main perpetrator of the terrorist attack which has killed and wounded a number of Iranians has been arrested," governor of Chabahar Ali Bateni told IRNA on Wednesday.

Bateni said a second attacker was spotted and arrested before detonating his explosives.

"There were two terrorists who have been identified by police, but they exploded one of their vests before any move," he added.

Officials say they have been receiving bomb threats during the past three days.

The lawmaker from Chabahar city, Mohammad Yaghoub Jadagal, said, "We have no word yet of the number of people killed but between 50 and 60 people were transferred to hospitals."
